Use Kahoot! It's a hoot.

Last Tuesday, I was able to present the website kahoot.it to my high school staff at our bi-weekly staff meeting.  Kahoot is a game-based, classroom response system.  It uses any mobile device and allows students to answer multiple choice questions instantly.  It's basically like a clicker response system, but free.  It's very easy to use.  Just go to getkahoot.com to get started.  The great thing about the site it that you can download great data once the session is over to identify areas of need based on the questions you asked.  It breaks all the information down by question and even by student!

Thanks to Patty Wolfe of Cozad Schools and Heather Callihan of GI Northwest for introducing me to the site.

Preparing kids to learn, with love

Students who are loved at home, go to school to learn, and students who aren't, go to school to be loved. -

Kids need to be in a specific state of mind to optimize the learning they will do on any given day. They must have their needs met physically, emotionally, and psychologically in order for this to happen. The love parents can give their kids is of the utmost importance. Making sure kids are properly fed, have clean clothes, and get out the door with a positive attitude starts them on the right foot. But, if a student is lacking in getting the love they need at home, they search for that love at school. They need the attention, the feeling of being content, to complete the preparation for learning. When a student gets this attention and feeling of being loved at home, they can focus on their school work and approach each and every day as a day of opportunity. Without it, they may struggle to achieve the most remedial task.

So give your sons and daughters a hug. Let them know you love them. Be a role model for their learning and for what type of person you want them to be as they grow.

Stay Positive!

Life, looking at the big picture, is a very short period of time.  It's hard to imagine all or most of one's waking hours dedicated to negativity or thoughts of failure for another person.  There's not enough time in life for that attitude.  It's important to keep things in perspective and create a positive outlook on what we can control.  The things we cannot control should not affect this positive attitude......they should not bog us down.  Surround yourself with positive people.  You never know when you are going to need some reinforcement to get you back on track. Stay positive.
